DG Newsletter July 2010

Dear Fellow Lions,

It gives me immense pleasure in presenting my first District Governors news letter in front of you. This is my first official communication with you after getting installed as District Governor at the International Convention held at Sydney, Australia on 02-07-2010.

My tour to Australia along with my wife Lion Lady Vidya was a wonderful experience for both of us. We left for Australia on 23-06-2010 at IST 23.30 from Mumbai Airport and after hectic journey of almost 16 hours; we reached Sydney on 24-06-2010 at 20.30 hours local time. We received warm reception from Australian Lions and immediately we proceeded towards our Hotel Four Point Sheraton located on Darling Harbor, which is a prime location in Sydney.

After taking good rest for a night, our schooling for DGE started immediately on 25-06-2010. Our schooling was conducted in a convention centre which was walking distance from our Hotel. After grand opening ceremony for one and half hour, our schooling started at 10.30 a.m. local time. Lion Sangeeta Jatia, International Director endorsee from multiple 322 was our group leader.

During this schooling I got opportunity to learn so many new things which has given new dimensions to my leadership qualities. Our group comprised of Lions from Multiple 322 and 323 along with Lions from Bangla Desh and Nepal. This has given me an opportunity to exchange my thoughts with them.

Our International Convention started on 29-06-2010 with a grand opening ceremony. Our International President Lion Eberhard J. Wrifs presided the function. The proud moment for us as an Indian in this convention was that Lion Narendra Bhandari and Lion Krishna Reddy from our country got elected as International Director. Our installation as District Governor took place on 02-07-2010 by removing the ribbon and we became proud District Governors of our respective Districts.

This International Convention was a great learning experience for me and I will try to implement the innovative ideas in our District to improve the administration of our District. I seek your co-operation in implementing these ideas.

Highlights of District Governors programme in the month of JULY 2010

02-07-2010

Installed as District Governor by removing the ribbon in a grand function held at Sydney in International Convention.

03-07-2010

Departure from Sydney at 16.30 hours local time by Quantas Airways. The flight route was via Singapore and arrived at Mumbai Airport on 04-07-2010 at 03.30 IST after a journey of almost 16 hours.

05-07-2010

Arrived at Chiplun and given a warm reception by all the members of Lions Club Chiplun by arranging welcome home ceremony.

12-07-2010

Kitchen Cabinet Orientation workshop was organized by District administration of Dist 323 D-1. Lion Rajesh Mehra, PDG, Dist. 323 A-3 and myself had a very good interactive meeting with all the kitchen cabinet members. 25 members were present for this meeting.

Attended Installation Ceremony of Lions and Lioness Club of Chiplun. PDG Lion Rajesh Mehra from Dist. 323 A-2 was present as an installing officer and this function was attended by more than 150 people. Four members were also inducted during this ceremony. The function was well organized and all the members of lions and Lioness club have taken keen interest in the event.

Visit to Ratnagiri for celebration of 75^th Birthday of PDG MJF Lion Eknathbhai Nalawade. Lions Club of Ratnagiri arranged various service activities on this occasion.

30 raincoats were distributed to traffic police of Ratnagiri by my hands.

I inaugurated yoga classes organized by Lioness Club of Ratnagiri.

I was invited as chief guest and installing officer for the installation ceremony of Lions Club of Sawantwadi. This function was well attended and organized in a grand manner. The newly elected President Lion Mahesh Patil and his entire team is very enthusiastic and I am confident that their performance will be fabulous in coming L.Y. As per District Governors slogan of Think Different, they have donated Rs. 500/- to D.G. Fund out of amount saved by organising the ceremony flowerless.

Visit to Lions Club of New Ratnagiri for charter presentation and installation ceremony. Lions club of New Ratnagiri is a new club extended by Lions Club Ratnagiri. This club is perfect combination of experience and energy. Even though this is a newly formed club, the function was well organized and well attended. The installation ceremony was performed by PDG MJF Lion Uday Lodh. Immediate PDG MJF Lion P.C. Zapke and PDG MJF Lion Eknath Nalawade were also present for this function as guest of honour.

Visit to Lions Club of Sangli City for their installation ceremony and whooping membership growth of 200%. The newly elected Lion Suresh Sarada is a dynamic person and  on the very day of his installation as a President, he added 80 new members in the club and hence given a growth of 200%. Hats off to Lion Suresh Sarada. Local M.P. and Central Minister Mr. Pratik Patil was chief guest of the function and he along with his wife has taken oath as Lion member and announced a donation of Rs. 25,00,000/- from M.P. fund for the proposed Eye Hospital of Lions Club of Sangli City. PDG Lion MJF Lion Dr. Vilas Shah installed the new team and PDG MJF Lion Rajendra Shah inducted the new members. PDG MJF Lion Diwakar Shetty and MJF Lion Subhash Arwade were guest of honour. The function was well attended and well organized.

First Honorary Committee meeting of the District was held at Quality Resorts Riverview, CHIPLUN. The meeting was attended by 17 no. of PDG’s and VDG 1 and VDG 2 were also present for this meeting. The meeting was conducted in a friendly atmosphere and discussions have taken place for the betterment of the District.

1^st District Cabinet meeting “ANKOOR” was held in Multipurpose Hall of SPM English Medium School, Parshuram. The meeting was presided by me and Past International Director MJF Lion Premchand Bafana gave his presence to this meeting. In spite of flood situation arising out of heavy rain, the attendance for this meeting was fantabulous. Total 215 cabinet members out of 245 members were present. All the cabinet members including region chairman and zone chairman took part in the discussion and the meeting was held in friendly atmosphere. Lion Premchandji Bafana gave his valuable guidance to the house. The meeting was followed by dinner.

Cabinet installation “ARUNODAYA” was held in the auditorium of SPM English Medium School. PID MJF Lion Premchandji Bafana was chief guest and installing officer and Shri. Nishikantji Joshi, Ex. MLA and Editor of Daily newspaper SAGAR was the key note speaker. Lion Premchandji Bafana conducted the installation ceremony in grand manner and he mesmerized the audience by his knowledgeable and informative speech. Key Note speaker Shri. Nishikantji Joshi shared his thoughts with the audience and taken them to a different level. VDG 1 MJF Lion Ashok Mehta , VDG 2 MJF Lion Manohar Sharma and almost all PDG from our District were present for this ceremony. PDG MJF Lion Hasmukh Mehta and MJF Lion Madanbhai Sura from neighboring District 323 D-2 have graced the occasion. Approx. 550 delegates from all over the District attended the ceremony in spite of heavy rain and flood situation.

The joint activity of Dist. 323 D-1 and 323 D-2 was held at Guhagar. The foundation stone of Late Chagan Krushnadas Sura training and rehabilitation complex for handicapped was laid down by Lion MJF Premchandji Bafana. PDG from Dist. 323 D-2, MJF Lion Madanbhai Sura has generously donated Rs. 2,40,000/- in memory of his late father Late Chagan Krushnadas Sura for the purchase of land. Lions club of Pune Supreme and Pune Aundh Pashan have donated  Rs. 30,000/- each for the construction of the complex. Our District has also assured its participation in this project as the work progresses.

The clubs who have not submitted the E-mail ID of President, Secretary and Treasurer should send mail to wmmr@lionsclubs.org requesting for user ID and password along with following information-

1. Full name of the member
2. Post held
3. Club no.
4. Membership no.
5. E-mail ID on which user ID and password should be sent.

After sending the request, you should get the User ID and Password on your E-mail within 48-72 hours.

Please submit your admin. and activity report only through District website and do not mail the same to D.G., Cabinet Secretary, Region Chairman and Zone Chairman as they can access to your report on District website through their respective user ID and password.

You should send your WMMR on or before the last working day of respective month. If the last day of the month is Saturday, then please keep in mind that you should submit your report on or before the last Friday of that particular month.
